What's usually behind it
Defrost system failure
The most common cause of a warm fridge with a cold freezer. A failed defrost heater, thermostat, or control board lets frost choke the evaporator so cold air can't circulate. Usually a same-day fix once we confirm which part failed.
Evaporator or condenser fan
Fans move the cold air. A dead evaporator fan means the freezer stays cold but the fridge compartment warms up; a dead condenser fan makes the compressor overheat and cycle. Both are routine part swaps.
Clogged condenser coils
Pet hair and dust force the compressor to run hot and long. We clean coils as part of most refrigerator repairs — sometimes that alone brings temperatures back.
Sealed-system problems
Compressor or refrigerant leak. This is the expensive end of fridge repair, and on an older unit it's often the point where replacement beats repair. We'll tell you the honest math before any work starts.
Is it worth fixing?
Under 10 years old and the repair is less than half the cost of a comparable new unit — repair it. Sealed-system failure past year 12 — usually replace.

Usually not. Nine times out of ten it's the defrost system or the evaporator fan — both are standard same-day repairs, not sealed-system work. We carry the common parts on the truck.

Is it worth repairing a fridge with a bad compressor?
On a unit under 8 years old with a premium cabinet (built-in, counter-depth), often yes — some compressors are still under manufacturer warranty. On a 12-year-old freestanding unit, usually no, and we'll say so at the diagnosis.
