What's usually behind it
Water inlet valve and fill problems
Small or hollow cubes mean low fill — a scaled-up inlet valve or low house pressure. The valve is a routine replacement.
Frozen fill tube
The classic intermittent failure: the fill tube ices shut, thaws, ices again. We clear it and fix the cause (usually valve dribble or freezer airflow).
Ice maker assembly failure
Motors and thermostats inside the icemaker head wear out — on most brands the whole assembly is replaced as one part, and we stock the common ones. Samsung French-door ice makers are their own known story; we repair them weekly.
Filter and taste issues
Bad-tasting ice is nearly always an overdue water filter or an empty bin absorbing freezer odors — sometimes no repair needed, and we'll say so.
